We are both from Olympia, Washington, born and raised, and grew up backpacking throughout the Cascades and Olympics.
Erin (trail name Backup), is the master of spreadsheets, obsessive planning, memorizing small details, and wild enthusiasm. She got the PCT bug back in 2009, and attempted her first thru hike in 2012. The combination of blisters, shin splints, and constant lack of appetite proved too much to handle, and she headed home at Wrightwood. Despite the copious amount of discomfort, Erin had a phenomenal time on the trail and has been talking about it nonstop since then.
Kitt's strengths are his easy going attitude, willingness to try anything, and ability to consume vast quantities of food. After Erin returned from the PCT in 2012, he was won over by her constant pining for the trail, and enthusiastically agreed to a thru hike in 2014. This will be his first thru hike, and he is looking forward to living in the woods for five months.
Armed with better shoes, lighter gear, and a dairy and wheat free diet (for Erin), we are eagerly anticipating our PCT hike. 2014 is the year!
